Our pricing is based on take-home weight, which is the weight of the beef after it is cut, trimmed, and packaged. This reflects the actual amount of meat you will receive, making it easier to plan freezer space and meals.
It depends. While sale-priced ground beef might be cheaper, a quarter cow gives you premium, single-source beef, including steaks, roasts, and ground beef — all raised naturally and transparently. Many customers say it’s about quality, consistency, and knowing where your beef comes from.
Grocery stores sell cheap ground beef and expensive steaks separately. A quarter cow averages all cuts together — giving you restaurant-quality steaks plus roasts and ground beef. You’re paying for quality and transparency, not just pounds.
Every cow has a limited number of steaks. The rest becomes roasts and ground beef. With a quarter cow, you get lean, single-source ground beef perfect for tacos, chili, burgers, and meatballs — no mystery blends.
A quarter cow typically requires about 7 – 10 cubic feet of freezer space, which is roughly the size of a medium chest freezer. Using a dedicated chest or upright freezer ensures your beef stays organized and maintains its quality.
A full freezer stays cold 24 – 48 hours without power. For extra peace of mind, some customers use freezer alarms or ice blocks, but for most, this isn’t a major risk.
When properly wrapped and kept frozen at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, beef will maintain its quality 12 – 18 months. Ground beef is best used within about 12 months, while steaks and roasts can last longer to 18 months.
Processing fees are not included in the listed price. These fees are paid separately to the processor and cover cutting, wrapping, and packaging your beef according to your preferences.
