Northern Illinois Beef Estimate Calculator (See What a Half or Quarter Cow Really Costs)

At Nadig Farms, we sincerely believe that buying a half cow, quarter cow, or whole cow is one of the smartest food decisions a family can make.

But most people never get that far.

Not because they’re not interested, but because the numbers feel unclear.

  • How much will it actually cost?
  • How long will it last?
  • Is it really cheaper than the grocery store?
  • Is this actually worth it for my family?

For years, families across Northern Illinois have had to guess. So we built something to answer them… for free.

The first beef estimate calculator designed specifically for families in Northern Illinois.

Introducing the Nadig Farms Beef Estimate Calculator

Our Beef Estimate Calculator is a simple, free interactive calculator designed to give any family an honest estimate for buying bulk beef, so you can make a confident decision before spending a dollar.

Because yes, buying bulk beef is a bigger upfront purchase.

But when you break it down, your family isn’t just buying beef… you’re locking in months (sometimes a full year) of meals at a predictable low cost.

You tell the calculator:

  • How many people you’re feeding
  • How often your family eats beef
  • How you’d like to split the purchase

In about 10 seconds, you’ll know exactly where you stand. Not just what it costs, but whether it actually makes sense for your family.

  • Decide if bulk beef fits your budget before talking to a farm
  • Understand your true cost per meal, not just the total price
  • See how long your beef will last, so you don’t overbuy or run out
  • Compare against grocery store prices using real Northern Illinois data
  • Know if you’re getting a fair deal when talking to any farm

You don’t need to enter your email, create an account, or commit to anything. It’s simply a fast, no-risk way to see if buying bulk beef actually makes sense for your family.

Most families are surprised by what they find.

Why We Built It This Way

We’re a working farm, not a retail store.

Most of the families we talk to are buying bulk beef for the first time.

The biggest thing holding them back isn’t interest. It’s uncertainty.

Most people have to call around, wait for quotes, and piece together rough estimates just to get a ballpark answer.

We didn’t think that made sense.

So we built a tool that lets you run the numbers yourself, on your own time, before ever reaching out to us (or any farm).

Because if it doesn’t make sense for your family, you should know that upfront.

And if it does… you can move forward with confidence.

We also wanted to be honest about comparisons

Our calculator uses real, current blended average prices for grain-finished premium beef at local grocery stores in Northern Illinois to show you what an equivalent purchase would cost retail in the Chicagoland area, and what you’d save by buying direct from a farm.

Those numbers are updated frequently so they stay accurate.

It’s a Planning Tool

One of the things we’re most proud of is the beef timeline feature

When you input your household size and how often your family eats beef, the calculator estimates how many weeks your purchase will last and gives you a projected runout date.

For example:

If you’re buying a half cow for a family of four that eats beef three times a week, that’s roughly a year’s worth of meals from a single purchase.

It also makes planning easier.

Families can see at a glance whether a half cow or a quarter cow makes more sense for their freezer space and eating habits. People who are splitting a purchase with another family can factor that in and see exactly what their share looks like.

Use It to Compare Farms

We’ll say it plainly: we want you to get the best deal for you, even if that’s not with us (but we hope you do).

If you’re shopping around and getting quotes from other farms or co-ops, use our calculator as a baseline.

  1. Compare our numbers with another farm quoted you (price per pound) and see how it stacks up.
  2. Compare the cost per meal.
  3. Compare what you’d save versus retail.

Make the decision that’s right for your family.

That’s the kind of transparency we think the direct-farm food market needs more of, and we’re happy to be part of building it.

Ready to Run Your Numbers?

It takes about 10 seconds to see what a year of beef really costs your family.

  • No email
  • No commitment
  • Just real numbers based on how your family eats

See what a year of beef really costs your family

At the end, you’ll have the option to get a full breakdown emailed to you, so you can review it later, share it with your spouse or partner, or use it when comparing options.

Run Your Numbers in About 10 Seconds

If you have questions about what the numbers mean, want help choosing the right size for your family, or are thinking about reserving beef, we’re always happy to talk.
